Wi-Care enables fashionable clothing for people with a disability, while Wi-Care clothing also helps to reduce the physical burden on health care providers. Founder and director Wilma Verhoeks started designing and manufacturing custom clothing in 1998, for which she ran her own fashion trade school. How did she come to this transition?
Wilma: I have friends who work in the care sector and they often complained about back and shoulder pain, because it was so heavily taxing to get clients on and off. During the night shifts, knots had to be sewn on clothes again and again, because people with a poor hand function would often subtract them. In short, the challenge was ... designing custom clothing!
