Levi’s Unveils Global Community To Help Women "Shape What's To Come"
Levi’s® – the original, definitive jeans brand – will soon unveil a new global community where Millennial women around the world can network and interact with peers and mentors to help them progress both personally and professionally in pursuit of their passions.
The NextWomen has 10 beta passes for a sneaky preview of the site.
Launching on Monday, 18th October 2010, ShapeWhatsToCome.com will enable young women in the UK, US and Japan to make connections and collaborate with like minded women, exchange advice and information, receive communal coaching, and learn from and communicate with like-minded women around the world.
The site will feature contributions from 20 inspiring Millennial “ambassadors” from the US, UK and Japan, ranging from up-and-coming artists and performers to twenty-something entrepreneurs and advocates for social change who have been engaged by the brand to provide advice and information.
Through live webcasts and regular posts and interactions in the community, ambassadors will reveal how they pursued their dreams and realized their passions helping other women to follow in their footsteps.
Participating British talent, all of whom are twenty-something trailblazers, includes:
- Belfast-born Kathryn Ferguson, a self-taught filmmaker whose work has premiered at institutions including the ICA and the OnedotZero and Birds Eye View film festivals. Kathryn has also been featured in the likes of Vogue and SHOWstudio
- London-based Kristin Knox, the American author and founder of fashion blog theclotheswhisperer.co.uk. Kristin regularly lectures in art and fashion colleges around the UK
- Acclaimed DJ and songwriter Ikonika, a young Londoner who is crafting her own unique musical sound with unusual hooks influenced by dubstep
- Art director Anna Murray, founder of design agency Patternity which specialises in the application of pattern to furniture and fashion, and textiles designer Grace Winteringham
- Social change campaigner Justice Williams, the youngest black woman in the UK to be awarded an MBE
They will not be the only ones available on the soon-to-launch website - British singer/songwriter Shingai Shoniwa, lead singer of Noisettes, American actress Zooey Deschanel and American singer/songwriter Janelle Monae will all be hosting live videocasts to further inspire community members.
“Since introducing the first pair of women’s jeans 75 years ago, the Levi’s® brand has been a relevant part of women’s lives. We’ve set out to truly understand this incoming generation of Millennial women, helping them fulfill their potential and make a unique impact on our world,” says Mary Alderete, Vice President of Levi's® Global Women's Marketing. “ShapeWhatsToCome.com is a place for women to be inspired to pursue their passions and channel them into something great – be it a new experience, career or even a cause.”
Shingai Shoniwa says: “It’s really exciting to be part of a community that connects creative young women across the world. It can be incredibly difficult to find the right guidance and insight when you’re starting out in the music industry so it’s fantastic that there’s now a platform for women to talk to each other about their ideas, seek advice – and help others looking for advice. I’m looking forward to seeing how ShapeWhatsToCome.com develops and encourages other emerging artists to follow their passions.”
ShapeWhatsToCome.com follows the August 2010 introduction of the revolutionary Levi’s® Curve ID fit system, based on shape, not size, to study more than 60,000 women’s body scans and listen to women around the world.
Millennial women can join in on the discussion at www.shapewhatstocome.com starting next Monday, but for those who can't wait until then, The NextWomen has 10 beta passes for a sneaky preview of the site - to grab yours email us: jo[at]thenextwomen.com
