Deadline: SmartCamp offering Mentoring to Startups to Build a Smarter Planet

IBM has joined forces with Seedcamp to organize Smartcamp, an exclusive global program bringing together entrepreneurs, investors and experienced mentors who want to build a Smarter Planet. Programs are still to come in London, Paris and Sillicon Valley.
The application deadline for SmartCamp LONDON is fast approaching. All technology startups who want to take part in our private morning event to meet the mentors, including Reshma Sohoni of Seedcamp, Sonali De Rycker of Accel Partners and Deborah Magid of IBM Venture Capital, should apply before 5pm 2nd July 2010. Tomorrow!
Why is IBM doing this? Because of the need to manage all our resources including energy, financial markets, and education better.
Consider the following facts:
- 170 billion kilowatt-hours wasted each year by consumers due to insufficient power usage information.
- Congested roadways in the United States cost US$78 billion and that's not counting the impact on air quality.
- One in five people living today lacks safe drinking water.
Technology can help but its need entrepreneurs to really build a Smarter Planet.
Business Pitch & Mentoring
Only 5 of the best startups will be selected to meet with the mentor teams, who will present business pitches to a selection of entrepreneurs, investors, academia and many other organisations that provide support for startups businesses. The objective of the program is help companies build an ‘investor ready’ commercial proposition in order to secure funding.
One selected company from each city will be invited to SmartCamp week in Dublin (Ireland) in November where one will be named “The World’s Smartest Start-up”
Applications should be via the website, but if you’d like to come along to the pitching sessions, please e-mail stewaa3@uk.ibm.com.
