European Incubator Seedcamp announces 2010 Tour of Europe

The European Incubator Seedcamp has announced her 2010 Tour of Europe. In as much as seven cities (Tel Aviv, Paris Warsaw, London, Helsingborg, Ljubjana and Berlin), Seedcamp will hold mini-entrepreneur programmes. The goal is to provide an opportunity for local first time web-tech startups to connect with advisors and fellow entrepreneurs within the region and beyond, and finally "to help as many startups with initial capital to kick-start their business and to make the most relevant relationships possible". Last year 140 teams were mentored throughout the year at seven Mini Seedcamps.

Before we will report about 2010 programme will take place, we still owe you a report about the winners of the big International Seedcamp 2009 program.  Oliver Pitt, business consultant reports on behalf of The NextWomen:

After the focus of getting into the Seedcamp week, the workshops, the networking and creation on new friendships for the 21 finalists, at the end of the Program six winning entrepreneurs were announced who won €50,000 to develop their product, in return for Seedcamp taking a stake worth between 5-10% of the company. Talasim

The Arab world has proportionally one of the largest youth markets and the comedy website Talasmin is attempting to create the MTVV online for them. With 72% of the Middle east under 30 that is a large market to get out and talk to and represent. Trading for over two years it cunningly syndicates its product offline. Reuters picked up the story recently.

Next Steps for Finalists

So that is it the role call for the final six of 2009, £50,000 each to go and spend as they have been advised through out the week or as they choose.

With the addition of the non funded Advertag, Joobli, Pearl Systems , World on a Hanger and Vouchacha the Seedcamp annual tour will see this geek (assuming that this is the collective term) heading off to the Valley and New York to see what learnings are to be head. Now the work really begins.

Women at Seedcamp

This year again the number of women-led companies as finalists and winners was exceptionally low.

@rodwellian : "Amazed at the fact there are so few women at SeedCamp. Looks like it is time to start my own business." #scw09

The NextWomen hopes that in the next program 2010 more women-led companies will apply and be selected.

Even though there is female CEO of Seedcamp, Reshma Sohoni and there are various women on the Advisory Board (such as Sherry Coutu and Bindi Karia) among the 14 members of the selection panel of Seedcamp, only Sitar Teli of Daughty Hanson is a woman.

Maybe a better ratio in the selection panel will improve the issue.

Seedcamp is aware of it and that's why it organized a get-together by the women in attendance to discuss issues relevant to their existence in a male-dominated field  (see photo)
