Up at the crack of dawn to set off for the G8 in Italy! There’s a busy few days ahead for me as part of the spouses programme while Gordon is at the summit.

This is the first blog post of Sarah Brown, wife of UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown, on a new Wordpress blog that she launched to give an insider's view to the public of the G8 Summit , and in particular the programme of 'the other halves' through her eyes.

After the start of the Summit, Sarah makes clear in her next blog post that she sets her own agenda.

Landed in Italy, and Gordon is whisked off to the summit. I [..] join the programme for the First Ladies and PM’s wives. They are all very interesting people and I’m hoping to get to know them better and to discuss some of the issues that we all feel strongly about.

As we know from Sarah other's internet activities, her Twitter account, with currently 347,000 followers, one of the issues that Sarah feel strongly about is currently the campaign to sign up a million Mums  in a new initiative to bring people together to end the needless deaths of women in childbirth all over the world. And in the other halves, she will probably have some good ambassadors for her cause.

Apart from the cause noted above, the Twitter account is also used for the coverage of this Summit.


It's pretty refreshing to see that the most influential person to Gordon Brown has embraced social media to get in touch with the public on issues and events. It's even better to see that she has an independent vision in this respect, which hopefully may be followed by many, including her 'other halve'. Moreover, her flawless track record to promptly reply to people following or tweeting her, indicates that she is pretty serious about the whole thing.

This achievement has earned her the title of Female Internet Hero of the Month.
