Can Super Chirp Help Tweeters Make Their Millions?

Super Chirp is the latest application attempting to make money for both itself and users of Twitter.  Set-up by software firm, 83 degrees, the service lets people set a monthly price for access to their updates.  Although aimed at those with premium content, anyone can set up subscriptions to their microblogging, be it Britney Spears, Tom, Dick or Harry, or a charity.

Super Chirp sees 83 degrees add yet more words to the ever evolving Twitictionary of the Twitterverse:

  • Chirp – a direct message sent via Twitter to a paying subscriber
  • Subscriber – someone who pays a small monthly fee for chirps of information

For a 30% cut of any money taken, Super Chirp takes control of multiple accounts and recurring billing, meaning making money from a measly 140 characters has never seemed so simple.  No doubt the little birdies at Twitter are licking their wounds, not having thought of the service themselves, and yet with Twitterholic placing them 7th on the list of Top 100 Users, maybe they will capitalise on the service by charging their 1,316,429 followers $0.99 a month.  Whilst this is likely to cause an immediate self-culling process for even the most celebrity of users there is no doubt this service has the potential to make tweeters across the globe sing from their treetops.

As media partner of Jeff Pulver’s upcoming 140 Characters Conference (#140conf), we are excited to announce our competition to win a ticket and media pass to the event which is to be held in New York City on June 16/17 2009.  For a chance to win, please submit a short article about Twitter that you feel is relevant to the readers of The NextWomen to simone[at]thenextwomen.com or beth[at]thenextwomen.com.  As the event is next week, please do not hesitate in sending us your submissions.  The winning article will be published at the end of next week.  Amongst many other topics the conference will cover the effects of twitter on The Media, advertising, politics and even celebrity.  #140conf will look at twitter as a platform and the many industries that have been disrupted by its advent.  Check out the schedule for a full list of subject areas and speakers that include Twitter Co-founder and Chairman, Jack Dorsey and Amanda Rose, founder of @twestival.
