Marketing to Women: TOMTOM, Samsung and Dell are fighting for Women Spending Power
Marketing to women is a hot issue. At Being Digital, a session entitled Engaging with Women as Digital Customers will be discussing the latest trends. As a preview thereof, we have looked to the most recent products companies have launched in their pursuit of this revelationary spending power of women:

- TOMTOM launched the White Pearl, a navigation tool for women. The co-founder and CEO of TOMTOM is a woman, Corinne Vigreux, and she herself points out that "manufacturers, like her own company have forgotten this important segment" and -now that sales are declining, -"it is about time to come with a specialty product for women". "Its small enough for a purse" (don't they know at TOMTOM that women nowadays don't carry particularly small purses...) and it has added features as “Places to be seen” and“Shop ‘til you drop”. Colors are white pearl and shiny." Seeing the new wallpaper design of the TOMTOM, maybe its time for a cooperation of Swatch and TOMTOM, so that one can DIY your own TOMTOM.
- Samsung introduced the Ladyphone Allure S, which because of its main feature -an additional fashion application-, is positioned as "the fashion phone, that aims at the feminine part of the population, seamlessly fitting the latest trends, whilst offering an elegant color combination and a slim design".
- Dell wanted to sell its new mini notebook computer to women via their new site: Della. But because of its focus on non tech issues, frivolous tips and its focus on the color of the notebook instead of on its specs., the new site caused a huge amount of controversy and was even called sexist. As a result Dell withdraw the site! Women can use the main Dell site again.
It remains to be seen whether Women as Digital Consumers are looking purely for fashion and style.......
