Bespoke Items Ride the Test of the Recession
Co-founded by Helena Boxer, Aaron Simpson, Ben Elliot and Chris Gorman, Quintessentially Bespoke is a portal through which limited edition fashion items from world renowned designers can be bought. Using the adage ‘to access the inaccessible’, the site is reported to have teamed up with designer boutique Matches to produce a (soon to be released) limited edition collection featuring pieces from 24 designers including Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen and Christian Louboutin.
In economic times when people are losing their homes and companies are going bankrupt, it is always interesting to see the longevity of a well thought through internet company. The more we report about internet businesses the more apparent trends towards internet shopping become and the more evidence there is to people still making purchases albeit based on quality or slightly altered ideals - think LoveFilm instead of cinema going.
The site, which oozes luxury, is presently showcasing: 30 100% silk georgette Temperley dresses; 10 Richard James pea coats; 10 sets of 2 lingerie designs by luxury brand Myla and 5 sets of Jessica McCormack designed jewellery including earrings and cufflinks. Still in its early stages the site is a sumptuous sneak preview of what is to come.
Of course, on the outset, it seems absurd or at the very least illogical that such a site could prosper today, and yet not so according to Helen Boxer. Talking to her local press in Ladbroke Grove - Grove Magazine - she reports how people are turning to the site in search of investment items that will stand the test of fashion time. True, people are being far less frivolous with their spending and yet when they do spend they are searching out the best. With Quintessentially Bespoke, clients get timely beautiful pieces owned by only a handful of people in the world.
Whilst the site only has appeal for those with cash to spend it is surely a good sign for other entrepreneurs with online fashion marketplaces. After all, the move towards online shopping has long become increasingly evident. If there is a fashion niche to be conquered it is likely that online is the arena to set it in.
