Questions for start-ups: Mumsmarket
MumsMarket.nl is a charity that supports the wellbeing of children worldwide. It is an online marketplace for kids clothing and toys but with a twist. Before you can buy an article on the site you first have to buy credit (a
donation) for one of the charity funds and then you choose which charity fund you want to sponsor. Your proceeds then go to that fund. That way when you buy something for your own child, you also do something for another, more needy, child.
Mumsmarket is the brainchild of Liza Hollingsworth, a mum herself.
How did you come up with the idea of setting it up? Did you do it on your own?
Yes, I did it on my own. I came up with the idea a year and a half ago. Thinking that my own children have a warm family, safety and all comfort they need. Every child has the right for a good and safe environment and a happy childhood. But a lot of children all over the world have no food, no hygiene, are sick and their parents can't take care of them the way they need. With MumsMarket I want to make helping other people (do good) fun, fast and easy. While you are shopping for your own kid(s) you're helping others.
What is your unique selling point?
A good looking marketplace with good stuff and a good cause.
How did you fund your business?
Through my own investment, which was about 20, 000 euro.
How do you get people to the site?
With a good SEO program, by advertisement at online communities and other online marketplaces. Also with free publicity.
Are you looking for additional funding?
Always! With additional funding I can do more marketing which leads to more traffic and donations on MumsMarket.nl.
Do you have a job on the side?
Yes. I work as a Product Manager for a jewelery wholesaler.
Are you looking to hire a bigger team?
When people want to volunteer, please contact me! The charity funds need all the help there is.
What is the next step you plan to take with your company?
Some online kids clothing stores donated their last season items to MumsMarket. That way MumsMarket has some new, low priced, branded articles on the site. The whole selling price will be donated to one of the causes. I'm looking for more of those partners.
