Launch LadyPR: the first newswire service targeting women
After the emerge of specialist 'marketing to women' agencies, now PR agencies emerge that are solely focusing on women. The first PR company that launched in this field is US based LADYPR. This female centered newswire service is the first online newswire distributor to specifically target women. It has a product in which it distributes press releases to women targeted media (some 50.000 contacts) for only $75. Founder and CEO Sherrell Dorsey answers our startup questions.
What is the startup about?
Lady Pr is about helping small and large businesses connect with women media by distributing their news releases to various women publications, online outlets and more. Our distribution service, not unlike that of Black PR Wire, PR Newswire or Business Wire, serves a niche market to help companies diversify their marketing strategy. [The pay off is "Giving Your Woman Owned Business A Personality"].
How many are in your team?
My partner KD Davis and I are the founders and principal owners of AccessionPR and LadyPR and we work with a team of independent freelance professionals on a regular basis.
What was your product company before LadyPR?
LadyPR is a brand new division of our primary company: Accession Public Relations. As a boutique, technology driven public relations firm we send out news releases on a daily basis. We noticed that there are many newswire services that target niche demographics but there weren’t any that specifically targeted women. So this is how LadyPR was created. We felt that small business owners were missing out on the great opportunity to reach women consumers through the media that they read, watch and listen to everyday.
How did you collect all your contacts? How many are personal contact, 1-1 contact, rather than mail contacts?
We collected many of our contacts through building relationships with editors and reporters, reaching out to online bloggers and a lot of networking with people in the media. We’ve been in business for almost 2 years now and although the media industry changes rapidly we stay up-to-date on our contacts that have changed positions or are no longer with certain companies. We also receive a lot of targeted mail contacts and use those contacts to build relationships and provide them with the stories and news they need. We reach 50,000+ women's interest journalists and editors.
What is your geographic reach?
We reach both US national and local media and plan to expand our reach internationally within the next year.
