'Dating a Banker Anonymous ' becomes a business
"We felt our relationships were being victimized by the economy and there was nothing we could do to stop it. Not knowing what else to do, we did what enraged yet articulate people have done since the beginning of time. We started a blog. "
That is how lawyer and fashion editor Laney Crowell and Megan Petrus describe why their blog 'Dating a Banker Anonymous' came into being.
Sounds like a joke? Not totally. While the blog covers with humor the pros and cons of an unemployed financial self-centred alpha bankers as partner, as well as the doom and glamour of the BR era (before Recession when the champagne flowed and being independently wealthy by age 30 was a realistic goal), the underlying issues are serious.
Dating A Banker Anonymous (DABA) is a "place where women can come together – free from the scrutiny of feminists– and share their tearful tales of how the mortgage meltdown has affected their relationships." Apart from the women's stories there is even a colour warning system indicating to the readers what their FBF (Financial Boyfriend Guy) is going to face that day in terms of economic hardship. Also, the blog deals with women finance highflyers losing their job and the result it has on their relationship.
It now also has an offline component in the form of a once or twice weekly meeting where women go for brunch or drinks and get to talk about the issues they face in their relationship as a result of the financial crisis.
The girls are planning a book too. So, DABA becomes a business in itself.
