Google actively supports women engineers with a workshop and scholarships
Google organizes a Workshop for Women Engineers as part of its mission to encouraging women to excel in computing and technology, to recognize and reward deserving female graduate students in computer science, and inspire them to become active participants and leaders in creating technology.
Up to 75 female computer scientists will be selected to attend a 3 day all-expenses paid workshop at Google's headquarters in Mountain View, California January 22 - 25, 2009.
Applicants must:
* be a female computer science students currently enrolled in a Masters or PhD program at a university in the United States or Canada. Graduate students in any year of study are encouraged to apply.
* demonstrate academic excellence and leadership in the computing field
* maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.3 on a 5.0 scale or equivalent in their current program
Students pursuing degrees in related technical fields are also encouraged to apply. Deadline is December 5, 2008. See information on the workshop.
Earlier this year Google also initiated a scholarship for women engineers in connection with the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in ComputingHopper, as well as full scholarshipsa for five Kenyan women to complete degrees in computer science, computer engineering and/or ICT.
