Catherina Fake in Amsterdam at PICNIC

Catherina FakeCatherina Fake, co-founder of Flickr, will be speaking in Amsterdam at PICNIC and is of course invited to the TheNextWomen Breakfast and TheNextWomen Brainstorm Camp on September 25, 2008.

She publishes a weblog, Caterina.net, but not very regularly, it sort of stopped at the end of 2005. But since she has quit her activities in new products, organizational innovation and process innovation for Yahoo, she has started to update her weblog again!

We were curious what her next step will be, and how she will monetize on her longtime passions and experience. On her weblog she has announced that she will be joining NY-based Hunch as Chief Product Officer: 'a fulltime gig, and her primary focus'.

Her former startup Flickr, a site where people can share photos, is a favorite of many bloggers and technologists. The site was acquired by Yahoo in 2005 for around $30 million. Given the billion-worth takeovers quoted nowadays, the deal Yahoo got seems a bargain. As for Catherina, it got her on the list of the World's 100 Most Influential People.

Catherina is an out-of-the box thinker; as Creative and Art Director for Salon.com, dealing with communities and social software. But she is also is a do-er, making sculptures, installation work, and writing fiction and poetry. That probably explains why Flickr works with the Tate and with Blurb.
