Women to Watch

caroline slootwegNext month is the ceremony of the Women to Watch award during a special luncheon. The award honours women in advertising, marketing and media whose accomplishments have made them stand out. The honorees are recognized for shaping the future of the field they work in.

Among the nominees are many Female Internet Heroes, such Lauren Zalaznick of NBC Universal, who runs Bravo, Oxygen and other women lifestyle networks as iVillage, and Charlene Li Of Forrester research.

Many of them are known for the successful projects they run rather than being recognised as successful women in their own right. This is the case with Caroline Slootweg, director of digital marketing and new media of Unilever and the woman behind the Dove-branded internet TV channel, which is part of Dove's 'Campaign for Real Beauty'.

Slootweg described her affinity with the internet like this : "internet is an inherently female space. It's everything women love -- chat, connection, sharing knowledge and thinking -- and it's getting more feminine with changes in tools and applications; it's less aggressively male and more intuitive."

Also on the list of nominees is Anne Bologna, founder of interactive agency Toy, Candice Kersh, intellectual property lawyer and partner at Frankfurt, Kurnit, Klein & Selz in New York, and Lynda Clarizio, President of Platform A, the world's largest online ad network, which include Advertising.com and Nancy Hill, CEO of American Association of Advertising Agencies.

The youngest contender on the list is Jane Hu of Vuguru.com, the new media studio that stages internet series on myspace.
