Venture Capital funding
In 2000, just before the internet bubble bursted, there was an interesting piece in Red Herring about raising finance by women led companies. Distressed that despite generating $3.6 trillion a year, women-led businesses only secured four percent of total VC funding in 1998, an organisation called Springboard 2000 held a women-only event.
In the event about 350 women-led businesses were encouraged to apply for financing by pitching their business. The event was a success, according the mostly female venture capitalists at the event.
From a report of Re:Invention, it appears that the percentage of finance raised by women led companies still needs some push. And therefore Springboard has decided to hold again an event: the ALL THINGS MEDIA Venture Capital Forum 2008.
Women led media sector businesses, including internet and social media companies, that are seeking institutional rounds of equity capital have filled in the application forms. Registration is now closed, but we will update you on the event, which takes place on October 30, 2008.
